Best quit smoking apps: an honest comparison

We make BeQuit, so read this knowing that. Every other app below is described the way its own listing describes it, with the price and platforms as shown there on October 12, 2026. Some are free and BeQuit is not, and that is worth knowing before you pick.

Twelve everyday moments (coffee, after meals, a drink, stress, driving and more) with three moves each, games for restless hands (Glide, Block party) and, on iPhone, a home-screen widget called Ride the craving.

Questions

What is the best app to quit smoking?

It depends on what you need. QuitSure is a set course you finish before quit day. Smoke Free, QuitNow, Kwit, Flamy and EasyQuit are trackers with free tiers and paid extras. Pelago gives you a coach or clinician if your employer or health plan covers it. quitSTART is free from Smokefree.gov. BeQuit is a paid iPhone app built around getting through the craving itself, with an SOS, moves for everyday moments and a home-screen widget.

Are there free quit smoking apps?

Yes. quitSTART from Smokefree.gov is free, and SmokefreeTXT is a free text program (text QUIT to 47848). In the US, 1-800-QUIT-NOW offers free phone coaching. In the UK, the NHS Quit Smoking app is free. Smoke Free, QuitNow, Kwit, Flamy and EasyQuit can be downloaded for free and sell optional upgrades. BeQuit is a paid subscription with no free tier.

Do quit smoking apps work?

The research is still early. A 2019 Cochrane review (Whittaker and colleagues) found moderate-certainty evidence that text messaging programs help people quit, but the evidence for smartphone apps was of very low certainty, and the authors called for more trials. An app can make the hard moments easier, and it works well next to proven support such as a quitline or quit-smoking medicines from your doctor.

What should I look for in a quit smoking app?

Look for help in the moment a craving hits, not only a counter. Pick a plan that fits you, whether that is a quit date or cutting down. Check the in-app purchases and subscription terms in the store before you start, read how your data is stored, and make sure the app runs on your phone.
